It is very important to me that this website be transparent about why it exists. Reporting who built it and why it was created is critical to public trust.
I grew up in Pacifica and live here now. However, I have also lived in other Bay Area cities with equivalent, if not higher, usage of illegal fireworks where Safe and Sane fireworks are not allowed.
Discussions about fireworks on sites like Nextdoor are often misinformed. Often times, citizens complain about fireworks without knowing the difference between Safe and Sane fireworks and illegal explosives. (I still recall someone arguing against Safe and Sane fireworks while admitting that they had never been to a booth nor did they know what was sold there. From that discussion, I still have the ridiculous image of parents of kids from local nonprofits casually selling M-80s and huge mortars out of a city sanctioned firework booth – which is very obviously not what is sold there to anyone who has visited one or is familiar with legal California fireworks.)
Of primary importance, I want citizens to be educated about fireworks. The primary goal of this site is to ensure that those who are voting on measures to ban Safe and Sane fireworks are educated about the issue before making their own decision. That they understand the types of fireworks, which are legal, and why banning Safe and Sane fireworks is not at all the same as reducing illegal firework usage.
